Update - 13 August: New video upload is now available
Clients whose content is hosted on the new platform can now upload video directly within SLA Online, without needing a third party account. This completes #2 of the restoration plan below.
Captions and transcripts (#1) are also complete. All existing video content has been reprocessed and where captions and transcripts existed, these have been restored.
This is the first version of the upload page and it is deliberately straightforward: the upload runs in the page, so the video needs to finish transferring before you move on. Larger files will take longer, and we would suggest uploading those at a quieter point in the day.
Work on the next version is already underway and it will allow multiple uploads to run independently, so you can continue working in SLA Online while videos upload. This version will also include the ability for you to add thumbnails, chapters and captions to these uploaded videos. We will confirm timing for that as the work progresses.
Clients whose content is still hosted elsewhere, including those who were using a private Vimeo 'My Library' or moved to YouTube during the disruption, are welcome to get in touch and we will talk through moving it onto the new platform.
Status: Resolved - 4th Aug - Video playback restored
Video playback has been restored across SLA Online. All video content has been migrated to our new hosting provider; a European platform with content delivered from EU-based infrastructure. Content is served through SLA Online exactly as before so no action is required from clients, and existing courses and links continue to work as they did previously.
What happens next:
1. Captions and transcripts will be reprocessed and restored over the coming days. We will confirm when this phase is complete.
2. Improved uploads. As part of this work we are introducing a new upload process, allowing video to be uploaded directly within SLA Online without needing a separate provider account. We will share details as this becomes available.
3. More information. Documentation for this migration, together with more details about the new supplier, data protection, etc, will be published shortly.
4. Clients who moved content to YouTube. Some clients hosted content on YouTube during the disruption. Those courses will continue to work as they are and have not been changed. If you would like that content brought onto the new platform, or would prefer to keep it where it is, please get in touch and we will talk through the options with you.
We would like to thank everyone for their patience during this disruption. The change was made at pace, but it has moved video delivery onto infrastructure we control directly, with a European provider and a simpler process for our users, and it removes the dependency that caused this issue.
If you experience any problems with video playback, please report this here and we will address it immediately.

Update - 3 August: Migration has reached its final stage. All video content has been transferred to the new platform, and the integration with SLA Online is now in final testing. Subject to those tests completing as expected, video playback will begin returning tomorrow evening, with a confirmation update posted here once content is live. Captions and transcripts will follow in a subsequent phase, as previously noted, and we will confirm timing for that work once playback is restored.
Update - 29 July: Migration to our new hosting platform is well underway. Video content transfer is in progress and integration with SLA Online is now being tested. Based on current progress, we expect video playback to begin returning during the week commencing 3 August, with the courses and videos clients have flagged as priorities restored first. Captions and transcripts will be reprocessed and restored following video playback, and we will confirm timing as that phase begins. We will post a further update as restoration starts.
Update - 23 July: We have completed our evaluation of alternative hosting providers and selected our new supplier. Emergency development work to integrate the new platform with SLA Online is now underway, alongside preparation of content for transfer. Progress is good. We expect to be able to confirm a restoration timeline in our next update, and we will continue to prioritise the courses and videos clients have flagged. Thank you to those who have already been in touch.
Change management
This work is being carried out under our emergency change procedures, and to the same testing and assurance standards as any planned release. No action is required from clients: existing content, courses and links will continue to work as before once restoration completes. While the pace of this change is faster than our normal notice period for significant system updates, a consequence of the circumstances rather than our choice, full documentation of the change will be provided to clients on completion.
